about this blog
Why chai at six? Because growing up, my family and I would have chai every evening. Those moments of my youth are among my most favorite memories.

Who am I? A twentysomething working fulltime in Knoxville, Tenn.

Please note that all thoughts and comments described in this blog are purely my own and do not reflect the thoughts or attitudes of the company I work for.

    chai at six
I'm sitting in my room listening to the Gipsy Kings. Gosh — I love their music. The right amount of Latin dance beat with some sultry Arabic lyrics. I have no idea what the song is about, but I just love listening to music that has a good beat to it. One that makes me want to get up and dance. To me, that's what I look for in music. I'm not one about the lyrics. I never even get the lyrics most of the time.

For instance, I totally screwed up with Tony Rich Project's Nobody Knows It But Me. I always thought it was "... Chateau d'Eiffel." Then a couple of nights ago while at work, I realized it was actually "... I wish I told her how I felt ... " I always wondered why he was referring to the Eiffel Castle. That's so silly!

Getting pissed with my apathy last week worked: I've since bought three pieces of furniture. This odd wooden shelf that really doesn't look made for the home. I just liked the black painted wood and the sturdiness of it. I also bought an old dark wood dresser. It's from the 50s. The wood is this lovely rich dark stain, with a slight tinge of mahogany. I'm going to replace the current wooden handles with metal knobs. I'm also thinking about adding metal legs to it, but I think I may stress the wood doing that.

The grand daddy of purchases was an unpainted square mission style dining table. It has a somewhat slotted (right word choice?) table base. I'm debating about painting it a dull/matte black or staining it a deep dark brown. I'm torn between the two. Having no other substantial furniture doesn't make it easy too. I'll probably continue making trips to Lowes and Home Depot until I can decide which will be the best route to take.

It's sorta kinda fun having these DIY jobs to do. I've also played with the idea about painting my apartment walls. I've thought about red or orange. I like the warm colors, but it's such big task to take on, and shit knows I'll likely fuck up.
