The marriage took place November 18, 2000 in Cherry Hill, NJ, at the Bombay Banquet Hall (off Route 70).
The mandap designer had done a stunning job. When I stepped in, I stopped to admire the golden drapings, and multitude of flowers that adorned the mandap and the hall (even though I had a ten other important issues to deal with).
As in all Indian functions, the ceremony started late. Prashant and the "jaan's" side arrived, with everyone looking their best. Prashant looked very smart, and looked very much like a dashing groom. Nisha's mother welcomed him in and did the pooja for him. Meanwhile, I kept an eye on his shoes, trying to ensure I could grab them once he took them off. Unfortunately, I wasn't successful, and his side managed to get them.
Nisha entered a half hour later, looking very beautiful. She was led by her sisters Jigsha (holding a divo) and Shivani (scattering petals). Her brothers, Dipen, Amit and Nirav and her mama then brought her to the mandap.
The mahraj, Harendra Dave proceeded through the ceremony, clearly explaining in English what each part of the ceremony meant.
In a short time, the mahraj informed everyone, that the couple were now married. People now lined up to present gifts and shower their blessings on the new couple.
